Is it actually stable? I've tipped a kayak before.
Yes – RowYak is built on a wide, flat hull designed for stability over speed. It's beginner-friendly even with kids, dogs, or someone who's never paddled. Most owners report it feels noticeably steadier than standard tandems.
Can one person use it solo?
Yes. RowYak works in three modes: row solo (needs a counter weight to balance), kayak solo, or row + kayak together. The seats are configurable for whichever mode you want. One boat, three use cases.
How do I switch between rowing and kayaking?
Takes about 60 seconds on the water. Stow the rowing oars, swap to the kayak paddle, adjust the seat. Most owners switch mid-paddle without coming back to shore.
Is it hard to row face-to-face? Doesn't the rower go backwards?
Nope – this is the design's whole point. The rower sits facing the kayaker, who paddles forward and acts as your eyes ahead. You're rowing the same direction the boat is moving, just looking at your partner instead of away from them.
Do I need any experience?
None. If you can sit down and hold a paddle, you can row a RowYak. The wide hull does the balancing for you – most first-timers are gliding within minutes.
How many people can it hold?
Two adults, up to a combined ~550 lbs including gear. Plenty of room for a kid or a dog to ride along up front.
Can kids and dogs come along?
Absolutely. The wide, forgiving hull stays steady with a kid up front or a dog along for the ride — and because you're facing each other, you can keep an eye on everyone the whole way.
